Earthdance 2006

In 1993 a party called Amazing occurred in the old brickworks amphitheatre in Sydney Park St Peters, It was an Anarchist picnic that turned into a free party that attracted around one thousand people, fast forward 13 years and there’s over ten thousand people  in the park going off to five sound systems. The large community of creators of Earthdance Sydney has done well to make it possible for this to happen no doubt being made to jump through more hoops I imagine than a dolphin in sea world.

The free party spirit lives on and has become legalized leading to Sydney’s largest growing annual event. Earthdance is a global link of events all over the globe and focus’s of energy’s for world peace.

Sydney’s gathering links up in the morning where other events are going off in the middle of the night. Sydney Park is up there on a world scale as one of the largest of these events. Sound Systems played a vast spectrum of styles but were not totally representative of the full history of the park. Styles of music that have helped establish Sydney park as a place of community entertainment in the future could also be represented like punk and hardcore styles.

The Mekanarky Crash landing aero plane cockpit stage looked particularly surreal on the top of the hill overlooking the other four main areas that filled throughout the day. By nightfall the size of the crowd was breathtakingly huge and a wonderful free spirit reined throughout the rolling hills of the park. The many lightshows were casting a magic over the throng of people and confused animals. A few brawls occurred which surprised me a little. What a great gift to the people this mega free party is, these events are a huge tonic to the ills of hurried modern life where everything is segmented by time and money. Hopefully the event can continue into the dark hour’s a bit longer next time, big shout out to all co-organizers, party people and supporters of this event. Look forward to next year.      MashyP
