Kuradji
On
Saturday July 6th we all gathered around a the 44 gallon fire drum
on a blustery and sacred headland. The winds continued
throughout the night at the windiest doof ever A small
contingent of Ohms Not Bombers headed down to Kuradji, a.k.a Sandon
Point to put on a beach party about one hour south of Sydney. We
cruised down in a recently converted vegi-oil truck that runs on
the oil that cafes throw away. Transport dosn't have to cost you
an arm and a leg!.(check
out http://lab-rats.tripod.com/ to see how you can do the
same to your Deisel motor)
Arriving at sunset at the embattled headland we were faced with the
devastation that Stockland (the company responsible for developing
Sandon Point)have inflicted on the sacred site. A huge area is
fenced of a churned up beyond recognition. The court case continues
to try and save the place from mindless and greedy development the
whole community does not want. We visited the Aboriginal tent
embassy down near the beach that was holding up well against the
ever increasing winds that night. Locals reckon the biggest winds
for many years. After a cuppa, we set up the vegi oil truck next to
the picket up on the headland, the winds were picking up even more
and almost tore the roof-rack of the truck, we managed to set up in
the truck and have one speaker outside, the small but enthusiastic
crowd almost blew away while dancing and keeping warm around the 44
gallon drum.We awoke in the morning the needle skipping around the
middle of the last record that played before we all passed out
sometime in the small hours.
. Stay tuned
for more gigs in support of Karadji, the sacred Aboriginal site just
north of Wollongong fighting for survival against the money hungry
Stockland corporation.
